I've eaten at all the Federal Hill restaurants and Vesuvio has the best sauces I've ever had. Some of the local restaurants are big on BIG , mediocre entrees.. Bringing a bunch of noodles home is not our goal when we go out to dinner. Vesuvios has good size meals that really taste good.
I went to Vesuvio's last night and it was awesome. We had a family of 5, including me who has a gluten allergy. Usually when I go out and ask for gluten free menu, it is quite small. When I asked the waitress, she said I could have ANYTHING I wanted, and the chef would prepare it gluten free! I was so excited.
Another one of Rhode Island small restaurants that serve Italian food the right way. Their salads are good and fresh; they offer a variety of meals - chicken, pasta, veal. Good wine list and mixed drinks. The restaurant is in the middle of a strip mall so it could be overlooked if you don't know where it is. Worth trying.
